The Big Three

Hiring authorities read hundreds and maybe thousands of resumes as part of their efforts to attract the finest professionals to their companies. These hiring authorities all search for one defining trait when evaluating these resumes and trying to separate the wheat from the chaff.

What is it that successful construction companies always remember to look for on a professional’s resume? A phrase we’ve heard before, and from more than one source, is that they are all looking for evidence that a candidate (you, for instance) can accomplish these big three things: Make Money, Save Time, and Solve Problems.

When yours might be one drop of water in a sea of resumes that someone has to wade through in hopes of finding a candidate who emerges due to their quality of experience and talent, we suggest that you make a point of trumpeting your successes in those areas.

If your resume does not currently reveal – clearly and quickly – how you can make a prospective employer money, save them time, or solve problems for them, you may not readily appear to be as strong a candidate as you actually are.

The Sales Associates at ConstructionJobs.com encourage the candidates who post their resumes on our website (you, for example!) to reconfigure your profile to highlight those projects and decisions in their careers that caused them to make money, save time, and solve problems for past and current employers. By doing so, you might just save yourself some time, solve a problem, and even make yourself some money by finding a great new job.

Will Your Resume Catch Their Eye?

It's a tough proposition, writing an effective resume. You try to sum up your career – your blood, sweat, tears – and triumphs – on a piece or two of paper. That's tough and maybe even unfair.

But that's the way it is. And to succeed in the daunting challenge of finding a good job in a bad economy, the necessity of creating a resume that can immediately and emphatically proclaim your worth has never been greater.

And why does the resume need to make a statement on your behalf "immediately and emphatically?"

Because, on average, employers spend less than 10 seconds looking at a typical resume.

Our Resume Writing Service is not going to exaggerate your skills; rather, we're going to make sure that the best of your career is encapsulated clearly and concretely and hope that leads, naturally, to a more fully realized examination of your career.

How To Create an ASCII (Plain Text) Resume for Applying Online

By Jennifer Anthony, Resume Expert www.resumeasap.com

Sending a resume via email or online is easy; copy, paste and submit right?

Wrong!

You should have different formats available for each of these situations. Not all email programs or online forms are the same. Therefore, your resume will not look the same to every recipient. Your resume should be formatted so that they can be read in any email program or online form. Save your fully formatted resume for interviews and for giving to employers who have already shown an interest.

Follow the subsequent directions to create a resume that will look good no matter where you send it. These directions will work for most word processing programs.

Creating an ASCII Resume for Pasting to Online Web Forms

  1. Open your resume in your word processor.
  2. Save the resume as "text only". (This feature is usually available by choosing "Save As" from the "File" menu). If you receive a message about features not being compatible with this format, ignore it and choose "yes".
  3. Close the resume and reopen the new text-only version in Notepad or a similar plain text editor.
  4. Double check that the text in any previous tables are in sequence.
  5. You can then review the document’s heading, making sure everything is correct and add any styles you may want to make the heading appear more prominent.
  6. If you have contact information repeated on each page remove on all but the first page. This information is not necessary for something that is meant to be reviewed on screen. Also delete references to page numbers.
  7. Continue to edit your resume following the formatting suggestions below.
  8. Save the document.
