Make Money, Save Money and Solve Problems
What sets you apart? What distinguishes you from the crowd? When you are looking for a new position in the construction industry, you're often asked a variation of the old question, “What have you done for me lately” that sounds like “What can you do for me now?”
In construction, successful builders can answer that question by saying they can “make money, save money, and solve problems.”
If you have been successful in your career, you can list several examples of how you shaved time off a job, overcame some obstacle, or cut down on worker injuries, and those concrete examples of your ability to make money, save money, and solve problems are highlights.
But - and here's the point - don't wait and save these points for your interview. If you wait to try to “wow” someone in the interview, you may never get called for the interview.
Make sure these items stand out in your resume. I suggest you list these items at the top of your resume.
Employers scan your resume in 15 seconds. If they don't see what you can do to make money, save money and solve problems - they move on to the next piece of paper. Make these key attributes easy for employers to find. Even though all employers are looking for this, only 5% of candidate resumes list their accomplishments.
If you want to go to the top of the interview list - state your accomplishments at the top of your resume. How have you made your employer money, saved them money and solved problems? Update your resume today. This will spark the company’s interest and get you the job you’ve been waiting for!
Update Your Resume! Update Your Resume!
If you're serious about looking for a new job, you must update your resume every 60 days on every job board where you have your resume posted. Why is this important? Companies typically look at candidates who have posted their resume in the past 30-60 days. If they find people who fit their criteria for the job, they don't look any further.
