North StarThe North Star

Sailors braving the wide and trackless seas used the north star to set their course and navigate to safe harbor. And while the Internet isn’t as stormy or dangerous as an ocean, it can seem as vast and mysterious.

Our clients have expressed the frustration of having a great, open position and knowing the right candidate is out there … and being unable to find the right person. Sifting through resumes of candidates who are not right for the job or seeing the same slate of resumes time and again is like drifting at sea … it wastes time and sends you off track.

Our understanding of your need to find the right person quickly and offer that person the chance to grow with your company is what makes ConstructionJobs.com a valuable resource for you. Our pledge is to reduce the stress of recruiting and wasted effort of fruitless searches.

Let us suggest these means of setting a true course toward finding the right candidate for this search … and the next … and the next.

First, we suggest you purchase a package from ConstructionJobs.com that includes resume searching. This feature adds some expense to our basic posting package, but it is highly effective and can yield a professional whose talents will more than make up the extra cost. Our packages include "Recruiting Plans" which offer job postings as well as unlimited access to research our national resume database (a constantly growing roster of top builders).

Second, make your job posting a bold statement about the quality of your company and the promise of the position you’re going to fill. These job postings offer unlimited text, so take time to discuss the benefits, bonuses, career challenges, company history and any other information that will inform and attract top candidates. Oh, and don’t forget to offer every avenue for a candidate to contact you: phone, fax, e-mail address.

Third, make sure to feature your job postings. As new job postings accumulate every day on ConstructionJobs.con, your posting will slip further down the list and become less likely to be the first position which catches the eye of the right candidate. However, if you make the job a featured posting, it will remain at the top and will attract 50-75% more views than regular postings.

Fourth, when searching the resumes, enter different keywords each time you define the parameters of your search. I advise my clients that if they need, for example, an entry-level Project Engineer, they ought to try the unadorned “Project Engineer” one time, then add in words that might apply to people in that position: “student,” “entry-level,” and even the names of specific universities which produce the caliber of candidate you want to draw in.

Fifth, use the “Candidate Alert” feature which comes with resume access. We designed this feature to save you huge amounts of time as it automatically sends resumes to your e-mail address when a new resume matching your search criteria is uploaded. This eliminates redundant searches and gives you first option to contact the candidate before another company finds them first.

Last, If you need assistance ask your Account Manager. We are here to assist in anyway that we can. If you do not have time to set up your alerts … or you would like us to help you with searching the resume database … or you want us to help you to post your jobs … please let us know. We are always happy to help and are only a phone call away.

These steps offer a much more precise and fruitful series of results than may seem possible at the start of a search. Don’t sail off blindly into a search like you might into foggy seas. Use the features we offer, give your position the exposure it merits, and rely on our trained and dedicated staff, and we can help guide you to the right candidate as surely as Polaris points north.
