Topic of the Month - "Pop Quiz "

It’s March, and time for your mid-term exam!

Here’s an easy question to start you off:

1] True or False.
Candidates can read your mind and know when you need to fill an important position in your company.

Answer: That’s false. Candidates do not inherently sense when you have an important position to fill.

2] Multiple Choice.
The best way to advertise an important position you want filled by the finest professional available is:
a) Have a young man pace the sidewalk outside your building wearing a sandwich board.
b) Run an advertisement in the local paper and hope the best and brightest come running.
c) Place a detailed listing of the position on ConstructionJobs.com, knowing that the finest candidates – not the most desperate ones – check our site frequently.

Answer: C. Thousands of professional builders study our site and look for key projects and companies they admire which will challenge their careers.

3] Multiple Choice.
The greatest service that ConstructionJobs.com can offer to you is:
a) Bright, helpful, innovative associates who know the business and know your company.
b) Confidence that the time and money you invest through posting your urgent jobs on our site will yield access to the best professionals in the business.

Close the Barn Door … Now!

There’s an old adage that warns against closing the door after the horse has already left the barn. And while that’s a tired old cliche, old expressions exist for a reason. They’re usually true and worth heeding.

In business, closing the door only after the horse has left the barn manifests itself when a company addresses needs and problems only after they have grown into full-fledged headaches.

It’s great for a construction company to win a bid to build an exciting new project. It’s not great when the company doesn’t have the personnel to tackle the new project and maintain its deadlines on current work.

In other words, in an ideal world, a company should always adopt a proactive approach to recruit the best candidates, having the pieces in place when they’re needed.

Of course, we all know that every company wants the best people available, the superstars, the crème de la crème! And because these candidates are the most prized and courted, they are gone the most quickly.

So, be proactive. Work constantly to attract strong candidates, not only when need arises. By waiting till the need is there, you greatly limit your options.

Don’t let the horse out of the barn. Call ConstructionJobs.com and let us keep your stable full.
